FAQ
Questions and answers
Is there a guide?
No. This is a self-guided smartphone experience. No human guide will meet you. Start when you want, pause whenever you like, explore side streets, and go at your own pace.
Do I need to download an app?
No app store needed. The tour opens in your phone’s browser from the link in your access email, and you can add it to your home screen if you like.
Does it work without mobile data?
Yes, once you have downloaded the tour. Download it on Wi-Fi before you go; after that, audio, text, map and pictures work offline.
Can my group share one booking?
Yes. Each booking includes 2 phones, so two of you can follow along, each on your own. Extra phones are $2.95 each, or a group can share one phone on its speaker.
When can I take the tour?
Whenever you like. There is no start time, and the code works as soon as you book, so you can download the tour before your trip.
How long does a tour take?
Each tour page gives its length and distance. Many of our walks take about 90 minutes at an easy pace; longer ones, such as Salzburg 1938 to 1945, say so up front, and tours with museums, such as Hohensalzburg Fortress, add your time inside. You can stop and pick up again whenever you like.
Do I need tickets?
Most of our walks need no tickets. When a tour does, the tour page says so before you buy: Hohensalzburg Fortress, for example, needs a fortress admission ticket bought from the fortress. Some walks also offer optional extras inside buildings that charge admission.
Will it work on my phone?
Use it on your phone or tablet in an up-to-date web browser, no app store needed. Keep the screen on while you listen, or tap play at each stop.
Is it accessible?
Each tour page lists terrain, steps, slopes and crossings, and any step-free options. On Hohensalzburg Fortress, for example, the funicular is the step-free way up.
What language are the tours in?
English. We work to say the names of people and places the way locals do.
Is the narrator a real person?
No. The narration voice is AI-generated. The script behind it is researched from published sources and checked by people, and a human (actually a real person!) approves every tour before it is sold.
Who makes the tours?
Our tours are researched and written with AI under strict rules of evidence, with AI-generated narration voices, and a human (actually a real person!) checks, verifies, and approves every tour before it is sold. How our tours are made.
Some tours carry a content advisory. Why?
Some tours tell difficult history, such as Salzburg After Dark and Salzburg 1938 to 1945: trials, executions, persecution and murder. We tell it without graphic detail and name the people involved, and each tour page states its advisory before you buy.
Can I get a refund?
If you bought from us, anything you bought that nobody has used yet can be cancelled and refunded at any time; once an item has been opened with your access code, it is not refundable. If you booked through a marketplace, you get at least its cancellation terms, and our own terms as well wherever the marketplace allows it. Refunds and cancellation.
I found a mistake. Where do I tell you?
Please write to [email protected]. We regularly review our tours, and reports from people on the ground help.
